About the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program .jpg)
The primary goal of the Toys for Tots Foundation is to deliver, through a new toy, a message of hope to less fortunate children that will assist in them becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.
Toys for Tots began in Los Angeles in 1947 by reservist Major William L. Hendricks, after he was inspired by his wife who had tried to donate a homemade doll to a needy child but was unable to find an organization to do so. He gathered a group of local Marine reservists, who coordinated and collected over 5,000 toys for local children that year from collection bins placed ouside of Warner Brothers movie theaters. Their efforts were so successful, that in 1948, Toys for Tots became a national campaign for collecting and distributing toys for needy children.
In addition to helping the less fortunate throughout the U.S. experience the joy of Christmas, the Toys for Tots program is also playing an active role in bettering our communities both today by helping people unite behind a common cause, and tomorrow by helping to develop one of our nation’s most valuable resources- our children.
Thank you for helping Petunia Pickle Bottom support this wonderful cause, and for helping to warm someone’s heart this holiday season.
